How to Estimate Report Pages from a Character Count
Understand why spaces, fonts, line spacing, margins, and figures change an A4 page estimate.
There is no universal number of characters on one A4 page. Font family, size, line spacing, margins, headings, tables, and citations all change the result. A character counter is best used to estimate draft progress, not to guarantee the final page count.
Check whether the assignment specifies characters with spaces, body text only, or whether references and a cover page count. When no rule is given, format the final document in the required template and inspect the actual pages.
Distinguish counts with and without spaces
A count with spaces includes word spacing and often line breaks, so paragraph structure can affect it. A count without spaces is easier for comparing text volume, but software may apply slightly different counting rules.

Know what changes a page estimate
A 10-point document at 160% line spacing will not paginate like a 12-point document at 200%. Titles, frequent subheadings, footnotes, figures, and tables consume space without adding many characters.
